What's So Good About 3D Printing?
How many times have you needed to produce just a few hundred small parts? What are your options? CNC, vacuum casting, rapid injection moulding? If you haven’t done so before, it’s time you added 3D printing to that list. 3D printing your production run is not only highly cost-effective, it’s fast too. 3D Printing Dublin are specialists in low volume production using state of the 3D printers, with the aim of bridging the void between prototype and injection moulding. FDM 3D printing is ideal for smaller parts and allows 3D Printing Dublin to produce parts for as little as €2 each. Print jobs take approximately three days on average.
Injection moulding can be expensive due to the tooling costs. With no tooling costs involved in the printing process, this means there are no financial barriers, aside from the cost of filaments or resins for the printers. Even better, this technique offers additional design freedom, and allows for a greater scope for complexity. Parts can be as complex as you want using our SLA printers, and if you’re looking for a simpler creation, we also have FDM printers. Unlike with moulding, milling, or cutting, we have almost complete design freedom over the product that is designed. As long as everything is at least 1mm thick (roughly), it will print.
One huge benefit to this is where complexity previously required a product to be made up from two or more parts that were each moulded, finished and assembled; you can now make that in one part, saving on multiple tooling as well as labor costs and design time. This is because of the high-quality SLA printers in our Dublin location. While FDM printing is more than capable of producing a basic model, with SLA printing, virtually any highly complex or detailed object is possible.
So, How Complex is the Design?
Complexity is no issue for 3D printers; however, it is for injection moulding. This means that the more complex the part, the higher the tooling cost, and therefore the greater the viability of additive manufacturing.
What if you don’t have the design files ready, and/or only have the thing you want to make created in your mind? Fortunately, 3D Printing Dublin will work with you to design the necessary files and print them in-house. We have both SLA and FDM printers, and strive to be as affordable as possible for our customers. Students, in particular, may also benefit from a student discount.
Next, you need to determine how many you want. If you’re looking for tens of thousands, then injection moulding is a better option. And there’s good news, there are places within Ireland that do large-scale injection molding. However, if you only need a few hundred, and the parts are relatively small, then you’re in the right place. Contact 3D Printing Dublin for all of your printing needs, especially for orders up to several hundred items.
